Carla Gauthier, Office Assistant
As a licensed clinical psychologist, I work exclusively with children/adolescents and their families. I am committed to helping children reach their fullest potential. My mission is to support families in their efforts to improve their child's well-being, as well as to assist the child in improving their overall functioning at school, at home, and with their peers. My clinical child psychology doctorate is from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and I have been providing comprehensive evaluations and treatment in Indiana for over 30 years. I find great enjoyment in working with children/teens and their families that are facing a variety of learning, behavioral, and emotional issues. My special interests and expertise are with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disorders, and anxiety disorders.

To reach this goal, my practice is limited to providing testing to define diagnostic issues and treatment planning. I also work closely and cooperatively with community service providers such as schools and physicians/medical providers during the testing process and afterwards. On a very limited basis, I also provide supportive treatment progress monitoring to children and their families.

In addition to psychological testing, I also provide the following services:

Social Groups for children on the autism spectrum – These groups run during the school year and are specifically designed to address the social awareness and interactions of children with autism spectrum disorders. For more information, please contact me.

Independent Evaluations – Parents can request independent evaluations from their school district when there are disagreements about eligibility or services. For more information, please contact me.

Community-Based Seminars – I have been an active speaker both locally and nationally for two decades, and particularly enjoy presenting on topics related to childhood disorders, family/parenting issues, and school-based educational approaches. For more information, please contact me.

Carla Gauthier worked in the public school system with students with disabilities for over 18 years. As the office assistant, Carla speaks with new patients to ensure that their needs are appropriately met, coordinates office schedules, processes billing information, and handles general calls from families and referral sources
I am a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) who views children and adolescents as whole people, not just test scores. I believe a person’s differences do not need to cause major limitations to their lives. Differently abled does not have to be a disability. One of my special interests is teaching students how to cope and work around their differences by utilizing technology.  Another special interest is teaching parents and students strategies to help cope with differences. A parent is their child’s best advocate!

After earning an undergraduate degree in psychology from IUPUI (Purdue School of Science) in 2001, I earned my graduate degrees (M.A., and Ed.S.) in School Psychology from Ball State University. I also have a Director in Exceptional Needs Licensure from Indiana University, an Independent Practice Endorsement (IPE) through the Indiana Association of School Psychologists (IASP) and a Certificate in Autism from The Zur Institute.
Since 2005, I have worked within the public school systems. This experience allows me to help families navigate school processes related to IEPs and 504 plans. Since 2018, I have been with Beacon Psychology Services in a part time capacity. Starting in 2019, I have also provided evaluation services in residential, charter and private schools.

One of my roles at Beacon is identifying learning strengths and needs by conducting evaluations. During these evaluations, I strive to make the situation relaxed and comfortable while still obtaining valuable information about how the child learns. I have extensive experience with autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and learning disabilities. I have a particular interest in helping families adapt to the social and emotional needs of young children.

My best teachers have been the families I have served, as well as my own children. Each child is unique and might need something different than expected. My goal for working with families is to help families learn about a child’s unique strengths and differences.  When working with me, we will work together and use evaluation information to find strategies for helping your family.
