YES! Dr Horn and Ms. Duhn are accepting new patients for psychological evaluations/testing. Both professionals are qualified and licensed to evaluate, diagnose, and make treatment recommendations.
When the wait time for the initial appointment extends beyond 6 weeks, Beacon Psychology Services (BPS) utilizes a ‘call back’ system for scheduling. This means that your name and number will be taken and then called in the order received when the initial intake appointment can be scheduled within one month.
The office manager can give you an estimate of when you may be called when your name is place on the ‘call back’ list.
Please notify the office manager when you are making an appointment that you would like to be called if there is a cancellation, and they will place you on our cancellation list.
Dr Horn is continuing to see existing and past patients for therapy on a very limited basis. If you have seen Dr Horn previously, she can discuss with you whether or not to re-initiate therapy with her, or if a referral to another professional should be made.
Initial appointments are scheduled for 90 minutes. During this time, we will discuss your concerns, pertinent medical history, and reasons that psychological evaluation/testing is being requested. Typically, you and your child meet together with Dr Horn or Ms Duhn, with some time spent alone as is feasible to allow concerns to be addressed openly.
Testing sessions vary according to the testing need and usually run 4 to 5 hours with an additional 4 to 6 hours interpretation, report writing time, and results consultation. Follow-up meetings are 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Regular therapy sessions for Dr Horn’s existing patients are typically 45-50 minutes in length. Shorter or longer appointments can be made when treatment goals make this appropriate.
Before an appointment is scheduled, the office manager will review fees with you. Fees for services are generally as follows:
Initial appointment: Dr Horn - $325, Ms Duhn - $150
Regular therapy appointment: Dr Horn - $175, Ms Duhn - $75
Testing costs: Dr Horn - $200 per hour, Ms Duhn - $100 per hour
Please be aware that testing costs include testing time, scoring time, report writing time, and results consultation with you. Typically, psychological testing (without the intake appointment) is about $2000 with Dr Horn and about $1000 with Ms Duhn. However, cost may be higher or lower depending on the age of the child and the extensiveness of the testing.
Any Court-related services are $600 per hour, and a retainer of $5000 is required.
In accordance with new federal law, Beacon Psychology Services (BPS) will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of health care services. This Good Faith Estimate is shared with you during the intake process and again during the intake meeting. It should be noted that the Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and does not require you to obtain these services. Also, the actual cost of services may be lower or higher than this good faith estimate. Further, additional services may be recommended as part of the course of care that are not reflected in the good faith estimate and would need to be requested separately. Regarding the Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to initiate a patient-provider dispute resolution process if the actual billed charges exceed the expected charges in the good faith estimate by more than $400. Doing so will not affect the quality of care that you receive. If there is a discrepancy, you may contact us to let us know that the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. We may update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, negotiate the bill with you, or discuss financial assistance options you may have. You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill. There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on this Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call CMS at 1-800-985-3059
Insurance generally does not cover psychological testing, and you should plan on covering the full cost yourself. Payment is due at the time of service, and we accept checks, cash, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and most debit and HSA cards. We also accept PayPal.
In families where parents do not share the same household, payment is the responsibility of the parent who accompanies the child to the appointment.
A billing statement will be provided for you to file directly with your insurance company for reimbursement.
We understand that illness and other unforeseen events are inevitable. If you need to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment, please call our office at least 24 hours before your scheduled time. Cancellations received with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a cancellation fee.
Intakes and testing are scheduled during school day hours, as this is when children are at their best. We typically cannot accommodate requests for after-school appointments, given the nature of the testing process. We recommend that you pre-arrange the absence with your child’s school; an absence slip can be provided if needed.
We do have a very limited number of after-school hours available for ongoing therapy sessions for Dr Horn’s existing patients, yet just as with other professional appointments, there will be times when appointments will need to be made during the school day.
If you are in a crisis situation and it is during regular business hours, call the office and inform the staff that this is an emergency. If you are in a crisis situation outside of business hours, please call the main office number and follow the instructions for leaving a message. If you do not receive a call back within 20 minutes, contact the mental health clinic of your local hospital or dial 911 if the crisis is a life-threatening emergency.
